I've been playing the piano having my little son next to me when suddenly a tune came to my mind. I started to improvise with it, and later composed it for the piano. I realized that the melody in the right hand was rather a duet between the two instruments. I thought of two flutes but then settled on the flute and clarinet which would give some contrast in the tone quality. The form is classical theme and variations. It is in F Major which I find very calming key suggesting pastel colors. It has some echos with my childhood when my mother sang to me her beautiful lullabies. The piece has rocking character and calm atmosphere that is characteristic of lullaby. The predominance of the same mood gave me a possibility of exploring some minimalist elements. This piece is based on two chords I7 and IV7. Lullaby was included in my composition portfolio for my MPhil.
